Spring is an exciting time for us here at Ricci Vineyards. Bud break is looming (the period when new growth starts emerging from the vines), wild flowers are erupting from every nook and cranny of the property, and, perhaps most importantly, baseball is beckoning. Yup, baseball. We are huge baseball fanatics, so the idea of taking in 9 innings chock full of roasted peanuts, ice cold beer, and high-fives really gets us pumped up.
While we are die-hard advocates for our regional Major League baseball representation, we especially love supporting and contributing to our hometown independent league team as well. The Sonoma Stompers were founded in 2014 and since have become a staple institution in the community. There are no lavish contracts with the players, there aren't any corporate luxury suites, and you aren't in the midst of 40,000 other ravenous fans ... but these are all good things. To put it simply, this is baseball in its purest form: being played and watched for the sheer enjoyment of the game.
The roster is mostly comprised of ex-collegiate ballplayers and former minor leaguers looking to keep their dreams of making it to the Bigs alive ... or maybe not even aspirations that large; they just can't resist the competitive juices from flowing inside themselves. Either way, the end result is plenty entertaining.
Since its inception we have been proud advocates for the team and the entire Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. This upcoming 2018 season is no different, as we are once again happy to call ourselves a partner to the Sonoma Stompers organization. Once the season begins in June, we fully plan to decked out in our orange and blue garb, bellowing "let's go Stompers" chants, and putting down our fair share of hot dogs and other assorted ballpark snacks. If you're in the area, you should definitely make the effort to catch a game (the full season schedule can be found here). We would love to see you at the yard and we're sure the Stompers would too!
